PILOT POINT, TEXAS – JULY 15, 2021 – Pilot Point’s Main Street Program announced that its 11th-annual Bonnie and Clyde Days Festival will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021 on the Historic Pilot Point Square. The festival starts at 10 a.m. and runs through 8 p.m.
LOCATION: Pilot Point, Texas is 11 miles north of Denton on 377.
BACKGROUND: The annual festival is held to commemorate the day Hollywood Came to Pilot Point, when the Warner Bros film “Bonnie and Clyde” shot its famous bank robbery scene at the historic Farmers & Merchants Bank Building. Filming occurred in 1967 for the classic film, which starred Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. In addition to the movie filming, Pilot Point was a known hideout of the REAL Bonnie and Clyde and the Barrow Gang. Local legend has it that a family member lived in the area and offered the gang a safe haven.
BANK ROBBERY RE-ENACTMENT: The featured event – the annual “Bank Robbery Scene Reenactment”, complete with gangsters and police squad cars – occurs at high noon and again at 4:00 p.m.
ANNUAL CABINET MAKERS’ SOAP BOX CHALLENGE: The popular annual Soap Box Challenge takes place at 1 p.m. on Washington Street just south of the town square. Challenge drivers must be between the ages of 6-12. Trophies are awarded for first, second and third place winners. The event is open to all businesses, clubs, families, and individuals.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS: During the all-day festival, Pilot Point becomes a piece of living history with 1930's-era family fun! Festivalgoers step back in time with a Classic Car Show, a fleet of Model As, and historic exhibits and demonstrations. Attendees enjoy family fun, craft and food vendors, live musical entertainment throughout the day, and a FREE Kids Zone featuring children's activities, a petting zoo and a face painter. There will be live entertainment throughout the day, including local musicians, dance troupes and more! Entertainment will be released in the coming months.
CONCERT DETAILS: Headlining the 2021 Bonnie & Clyde Days will be Austin red dirt country band Mike & the Moonpies! The band, which embraces a style of country called ‘neotraditional’, is currently touring with their seventh studio album, “Touch of You: The Lost Songs of Gary Stewart.” The band features frontman Mike Harmeier, pedal steel player Zach Moulton, guitarist Catlin Rutherford, bassist Omar Oyoque, keyboardist John Carbone and drummer Kyle Ponder. There will be no cost to attend the concert, which begins at 6 p.m. on the Main Stage. Other live entertainment will include the dynamic duo of Deanie & Dave, as well as the "Beerman" Brian Houser!
